Good news about the Nieuw Amsterdam

According to the Cruise Critic website, our ship has been sailing with only one functional azipod (motor/propeller) since late December when her starboard azipod died apparently due to some sort of electrical malfunction.

This has slowed her and meant shorter or missed shore days, not to mention possible extra yawing motion to correct for off-center thrust. While she’s rated as safe to sail on one azipod, this is obviously less than ideal. The good news for us (though not for the folks who’d planned to be sailing on her this week) is that she is right now in drydock getting the azipod fixed or replaced, so her propulsion system should be fully functional for our cruise.
